suntingAsal usul tidak pasti; kata monkey’s uncle (pak cik monyet) muncul dalam karya abad ke-19 dan mungkin secara tidak langsung menyentuh idea awal tentang apa yang kini dipanggil teori evolusi.[1] Kata ini mungkin kemudian meluasnya penggunaan selepas Scopes Trial 1925 yang diterbit meluas di Tennessee, Amerika Syarikat, di mana guru sekolah menengah didapati bersalah melanggar undang-undang mengharamkan mengajar evolusi manusia di sekolah biayaan kerajaan.
